Charida, a charming village nestled in the Baghmundi block of the  Purulia district, is celebrated for its intricate Chhau masks. Purulia Chhau dance was inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. Certified with Geographical Indication in 2018, Chhau masks embody a rich cultural heritage that dates back about 150 years to the reign of King Madan Mohan Singh Deo of Baghmundi. Situated at the picturesque foothills of Ayodhya, Charida’s scenic beauty is enhanced by its vibrant red soil, Palash flowers, making it a visually striking destination. The village is home to over three hundred skilled Chhau mask artists, and has grown into a significant cultural tourism hotspot.
